Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm back in training with the ball

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has begun training with the ball for the first time since fracturing his ankle three months ago.

Lahm, who started running again last week, could make his comeback for the defending Bundesliga champions in March.

The 31-year-old World Cup-winner suffered the injury in training during an international break in November, undergoing an operation and several weeks of physiotherapy.

Bayern said on their official website: "Under the guidance of rehabilitation coach Thomas Wilhelmi, Philipp Lahm played a few passes and completed a running routine."

Lahm has previously said his aim is to return to action in time for the closing stages of both the Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns.
