Radamel Falcao could return to Monaco from Manchester United

Monaco are waiting for Manchester United to make a decision on the future of Radamel Falcao and could welcome the Colombian back to Ligue 1, vice president Vadim Vasilyev has said.

Falcao scored twice in three league games for Monaco at the start of the season before moving to United on a season-long loan.

But the Colombia international, who missed the second half of last season and the World Cup because of a knee ligament injury, has made just 11 Premier League starts.

He has scored only four times for United, and was an unused substitute for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Swansea.

With United looking increasingly unlikely to take up their reported 55 million-euro purchase option on Falcao, the 29-year-old, who signed a five-year deal with Monaco in 2013, could return to the principality.

Vasilyev told Canal Plus: "Never say never -- we're awaiting a decision from Manchester on Falcao.

"He wanted to leave, he wanted a challenge. With Manchester he had a challenge, because Manchester United are a bigger club than us.

"I'm not worried about Falcao. He's a great striker with great qualities and mentality. We're waiting for a decision from Manchester United. We're not going to start talks.

"The only thing I can promise is that the team will be competitive and will challenge for a top-three finish next year.

Monaco, currently fourth in Ligue 1, remain in contention for a Champions League qualifying spot and face Arsenal in the round of 16 this season.

"Of course Arsenal are favourites, but I think my team is going to give everything," Eurosport reported Vasilyev as saying. "The pressure is on Arsenal.

"We have already achieved a great thing. No-one saw us reaching this stage of the competition at the start of the season."
