Pellegrini: Milner improving; City may play two strikers vs. Barcelona

James Milner is winning his battle to be fit for Manchester City's Champions League clash with Barcelona.

The midfielder missed City's 5-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday with a knee injury but manager Manuel Pellegrini said he is growing in confidence the 29-year-old will be available.

"Milner is better [than on Friday] -- so we will see tomorrow in the way he works," said the Chilean.

Pellegrini said he is prepared to be bold enough to select two strikers against Barcelona if he feels it is the right approach.

City have played 4-2-3-1 for much of this season but Pellegrini chose both Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko against Newcastle and saw each find the net.

"I don't know if it will be 4-4-2," he said. "I know we can play with two strikers against Barcelona or we can play with one striker. If you remember this team played without any strikers in three or four games in December and we scored three goals in three of the games and two in the other one.

"After that we played with one striker, [Saturday] we played with two, so we can do it either way. So we will see how we are going to do it on Tuesday."

Pellegrini has warned City that their task extends beyond stopping Lionel Messi as he highlighted the other attacking talents in the Barcelona team.

"I believe that if you just think about Lionel Messi you will have more problems," he explained. "Yes, he's pretty good, but if you mark Messi with three or four players he might not touch the ball but then you have [Luis] Suarez, you have Neymar, [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi -- you have a lot of other players to worry about in the team of Barcelona. Let's see their team and then see what we can do about Messi."
