Liverpool beat Southampton, Tottenham battle back vs. West Ham

Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning goal as Liverpool beat Southampton 2-0 to move to within two points of the Premier League's top four.

Coutinho opened the scoring in the first half at St Mary's as he took aim from distance to find the top corner with an effort that left Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster with no chance.

In a second half lacking clear-cut chances, Raheem Sterling made sure of the result for the visitors as he side-footed home after combining with Alberto Moreno.

The clash could have perhaps seen more goals, with both teams appealing for penalties in the first half, but referee Kevin Friend waved away their protests.

Harry Kane scored a last-gasp equaliser as Tottenham Hotspur battled back to draw 2-2 with West Ham United.

Victory would have seen Spurs move within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United but, despite a bright start in which Harry Kane hit the woodwork, they were unable to capitalise and found themselves trailing 2-0 after goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho in each half.

Spurs' hopes of a comeback looked remote when Kane saw a goal ruled out for offside, but Danny Rose's shot bounced over visiting goalkeeper Adrian in the 81st minute to give them hope.

Then, deep into stoppage time, Kane was felled by Alex Song in the area and, while Adrian saved the penalty, the 21-year-old tucked home the rebound to secure a share of the spoils.

Leicester were denied a vital victory in their push for survival as Everton grabbed a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

Leicester looked set to register their fifth win of the season when David Nugent and Esteban Cambiasso put them 2-1 up after Steven Naismith had broken the deadlock.

But with less than two minutes left Christian Atsu crossed for Romelu Lukaku, whose diving header flew past Mark Schwarzer after taking a huge deflection off Matthew Upson and the match ended 2-2.
