Samuel Eto'o age a mystery to Sampdoria too, Massimo Ferrero jokes

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has joked that, like Jose Mourinho, his club also cannot be sure of Samuel Eto'o's age.

Eto'o joined Sampdoria from Everton last month after just a few months at Goodison Park, and his return to Serie A got off to a rocky start when he argued with coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and refused to take part in a training session.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star has yet to get off the mark for Samp and Ferrero, a guest on the "Grand Hotel Chiambretti" programme, suggested the jury is out on the new arrival.

Asked if Eto'o was a bargain or a rip-off, he said: "Somewhere in between. I'm not the one who has to comment. Eto'o is Eto'o."

Ferrero also laughed off a question on Eto'o's age. The striker is officially 33 but, during his spell at Chelsea, manager Mourinho was caught on camera suggesting he might be three years older than he claimed.

Eto'o, who left Chelsea at the end of that season, appeared to call Mourinho a "fool" for making the comment last May, but Ferrero was happy to make light of the situation on his TV appearance.

When Mourinho's remark was mentioned, the Samp president said: "I don't know. We haven't yet worked that out either. Maybe he's 23."
