Steven Gerrard reveals 'big dream' to manage Liverpool

Outgoing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he has "a big dream" to become manager of the Anfield club when his playing career comes to an end.

Gerrard is counting down to the end of his enduring Liverpool career, with his spell in at Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy set to start on July 1st, yet it seems he already has his eyes on the top job at Anfield.

When asked by ITV Sport whether he had ambitions to become Liverpool manager, Gerrard gave this answer: "Who knows. It is obviously a big dream of mine, but you have to be good enough first and foremost. It's not just about saying you want to be a manager or you are going to be a manager.

"If you want to be a manager, you have to go out and prove yourself. It's a long way away, I've still got a few years left to play and that is my main focus at the moment. I still see myself as a player, and I know how tough it is to be a manager."

If Gerrard is to become Liverpool manager at some point over the course of the next decade, winger Jordon Ibe may be one of the key members of his team. Gerrard heaped praise on the 19-year-old after his latest sparkling performance in the 1-0 Europa League win against Besiktas on Thursday.

"He was a sensation for the whole 90 minutes," said Gerrard of Ibe. "He was a threat all night and their No.10 was relieved to see his number to come off because he had a tough night.

"The future is bright with this kid in the team because he is only going to get better and better. He was man of the match by a mile."
