Monterrey part ways with Carlos Barra

A press release on Liga MX club Monterrey's official website announced that the team are parting ways with manager Carlos Barra and his staff.

Barra has been in charge at Monterrey for a little over a year. The 2014 Apertura campaign ended in the Liguilla semifinals for Monterrey, but the team struggled to score in the playoffs and sputtered out against America losing 3-0 on aggregate without scoring a goal.

Despite bringing in some notable signings this winter -- Colombians Edwin Cardona, Alexander Mejia, and Yimmi Chara and Mexican midfielder Pablo Barrera -- this year's Clausura started slowly, with the club winning only one game so far in 2015.

"We inform you that today we have made the decision that Carlos Barra Díaz and his coaching staff no longer have the responsibility of coaching our team," said the statement on the club's site.

"We appreciate and recognize the commitment and dedication of all of them during their stay at the front of our Club and we wish them the best in the following stages of their professional careers."

A replacement or interim coach has not been named, with Monterrey preparing for their next match vs. Altamira on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
