Sporting KC's Dom Dwyer and U.S.'s Sydney Leroux announce marriage

Sporting Kansas City striker Dom Dwyer and U.S. women's national team player Sydney Leroux are married, they announced on Saturday.

The couple revealed their relationship in December, and both players announced their marriage on their social media accounts on Valentine's Day.

Leroux held up her No. 2 U.S. jersey with "Dwyer" printed on the back and hinted that she might be changing her last name.

Leroux and Dwyer are not the only USWNT-Sporting KC power couple. Alex Morgan and Servando Carrasco were married on New Year's Eve.

Leroux is expected to make the U.S. squad for the Women's World Cup this summer, while Dwyer will look to repeat his 22-goal performance from last season when MLS resumes in March.

Dwyer was born in England but played college soccer in the U.S. before turning pro. He has said he would be interested in playing for the U.S. once he becomes eligible in 2017.

The duo also released a statement to People magazine.

"Juggling our careers and relationship is very difficult, which is why we decided to wed privately in January. We wanted to announce our marriage at an appropriate time when we were together and at a time that suited our families. We also wanted to make sure that we told all of our close friends and teammates before we announced it publicly.

"We just bought a house in Kansas City and are planning on celebrating our marriage with close friends and family after the World Cup. We couldn't be happier and can't wait to start our lives together!"
