Valencia boss Nuno: 'We have taken a big step forward'

Valencia coach Nuno has praised his players for picking up an "important win" at Espanyol on Sunday.

Second-half goals from Pablo Piatti and Dani Parejo handed Valencia a 2-1 away victory to see the Che outfit move back into the top four in the Primera Division.

The outcome in Barcelona was Valencia's first win on the road since December 20.

"We have taken a big step forward," Nuno told his club's official website. "This is a important win.

"We worked well and it wasn't easy because we faced a very good side in a difficult stadium.

"We are all very happy. I am personally delighted for my players and for our fans.

"We have a young team and the players are maturing in every game.

"These three points are crucial to remain on course to achieve our aim."

Valencia hope to return to Europe's elite club competition next season and currently hold the last Champions League qualifying spot, two points clear of fifth-place Sevilla who lost 2-1 at Getafe over the weekend.

Next up for Nuno's side is a home game against Getafe.

Valencia, unbeaten at the Mestalla stadium since a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona on November 30, have won their last three league games at home.

"The important thing is that we play at home on Sunday and that we will have our fans supporting us at the Mestalla stadium," Nuno said. "We expect to clinch another three points this weekend."
