Premier League: Man Utd held by West Ham, Crouch saves Stoke

Manchester United failed to take third place from Southampton in the Premier League as they were held 1-1 by West Ham, only rescuing a point thanks to a late strike from Daley Blind.

United kept the same side that beat Leicester 3-1, and their line-up again had an attacking feel to it with Falcao, Robin van Persie, Angel Di Maria, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj all involved.

However, they had to defend early on as West Ham applied the pressure. David De Gea came to the rescue early on as he tipped Enner Valencia's shot round the post and then, from the resulting corner, ensured that the Ecuadorian striker's close-range effort went over the bar.

The Hammers dominated the aerial battle and James Tomkins was denied by De Gea's legs when he had a free header from an angle five yards out.

The game was scoreless at half-time but did not stay like that for long as West Ham made the most of a set-piece. United failed to clear and Cheikhou Kouyate controlled, flicked the ball up to himself and buried a volley from close range on 49 minutes after a wonderful turn.

Van Persie stung the palms of Adrian in the West Ham goal, but United created little until the Dutchman fed Falcao with just over 10 minutes left. The Colombian was through on goal but sliced his effort well wide with Adrian exposed.

Van Persie then had a powerful effort saved by the legs of the Spanish goalkeeper at the near post but, after De Gea had to rescue United again from Mark Noble's strike, Blind arrived with a fine volley which nestled into the bottom corner.

Luke Shaw was sent off late on as both sides ended up having to settle for a point.

Stoke striker Peter Crouch came off the bench to snatch a 1-1 draw at Newcastle with a dramatic late equaliser.

The Magpies looked to have won an instantly forgettable game when Jack Colback -- who might not have been on the pitch had referee Kevin Friend issued a second caution for his 71st-minute foul on Victor Moses -- fired them into a 74th-minute lead.

However, Crouch headed fellow substitute Geoff Cameron's 90th-minute cross over keeper Tim Krul to claim a draw on Tyneside and deny Magpies head coach John Carver back-to-back Premier League victories. The result means Newcastle are still awaiting a first home win of 2015.

Brown Ideye was West Brom's unlikely saviour as they fought back from two down to draw 2-2 at fellow strugglers Burnley.

The Baggies' record signing almost left the club in the final hours of the winter transfer window on Monday, but came off the bench at half-time at Turf Moor to head in the equaliser.

In a game of four headed goals Burnley were two up inside 32 minutes through Ashley Barnes and Danny Ings, but Chris Brunt pulled one back just before half-time for Albion.

It was a first Premier League goal of the season for Brunt, who lost the captain's armband to deadline-day signing Darren Fletcher. The point was enough for Burnley to climb back out of the relegation zone but they desperately needed all three with an extremely tough run of fixtures coming up.
