Jorge Mendes transfers involving Man United total 229.3 million pounds

Jorge Mendes has negotiated transfers involving Manchester United that have cost almost a quarter of a billion pounds.

The Portuguese agent, whose clients include Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, David de Gea and Radamel Falcao, has established himself as one of the most powerful figures in the transfer market over the past dozen years.

And while it has been reported the total cost of transfers he has acted in exceeds one billion pounds, almost a quarter of that has come from deals with United.

Those moves have come to 229.3 million pounds and include the former world-record transfer of Ronaldo to Real Madrid for 80 million pounds and the British-record signing of Di Maria for 59.7 million pounds.

That sum could get substantially higher this summer when United have the option to purchase on-loan Falcao from Monaco for 43 million pounds, while De Gea has been linked with a big-money move to Madrid.

While the Red Devils recouped a huge fee for Ronaldo, their dealings with Mendes have still entailed a net spend of 146.9 million pounds.

Mendes, who has a strong relationship with United, represents other players in his Gestifute agency who have attracted the Premier League club's interest in the past, including Fabio Coentrao.

Mendes' sum of the transfers has not been revealed, although it was reported that he made 3.6 million euros from Bebe's surprise move to Old Trafford alone.

The winger, who was the first player Sir Alex Ferguson signed without first watching him, only made seven appearances during his four years on United's books.
