Man City can retain title after Chelsea draw, insists Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City can overhaul a five-point deficit to leaders Chelsea and keep hold of the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho's team maintained the gap between themselves and second-placed City in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

But rather than view it as a missed opportunity, captain Kompany took heart from City's response after going a goal down.

"We did well to come back," he told Sky Sports. "Five points is not too much, it gives us enough confidence to carry on and push for the league."

City were eight points behind Manchester United in 2012, when they went on to become champions, and nine behind Liverpool last season, when they again finished first.

But Kompany rued a missed opportunity at Stamford Bridge, where City had more efforts on goal.

He added: "We felt that we had the better chances and with the strikers we have we always believe we can score a goal, we just needed two."

David Silva was City's scorer at Stamford Bridge, diverting Sergio Aguero's shot past Thibaut Courtois.

"I guess that's what top players do, he read it well and because of that we managed to score, as I said we were just lacking that little bit of luck for the second goal," Kompany said.

"That's probably the hardest away game we'll have this season, experience tells us that five points is nothing so for us it's time to start a good run again and to put everything behind and play at the level that we can again."
