Leicester's Nigel Pearson rues Robin van Persie 'offside' Man United goal

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson feels Robin van Persie's opening goal for Manchester United should have been ruled out for offside, but conceded his side were second best during Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Van Persie volleyed hoe the opener for Louis van Gaal's side 27 minutes in, though the Netherlands international appeared to be offside when latching onto a through ball from compatriot Daley Blind.

The officials failed to make the call and further strikes -- first from Radamel Falcao and then a Wes Morgan own goal -- gave United a 3-0 lead by half-time.

Marcin Wasilewski reduced the deficit for Leicester with a late header, and while Pearson was left to rue Van Persie's opener, he feels the Foxes' Premier League survival hopes will be defined by games elsewhere.

"The first goal was offside and we didn't do great for the second," he told his postmatch news conference.

"But it would be wrong of me to spend too much time pointing out one decision in a game when we have played against a team who played exceptionally well.

"It is unhelpful to have decisions go against you but that is how it is. Games like this for us are bonus games and our season will be defined by how we play and the results we get against sides around us.

"We don't feel we have given ourselves the best chance of getting something out of it today because we didn't do enough with the ball.''

Leicester sit bottom of the table with 17 points from 23 games, and are three points from safety.
