Darren Fletcher's West Ham move has broken down - Sam Allardyce

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has told Sky Sports that negotiations to sign Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher have broken down.

Fletcher, 30, has been heavily linked with a move to the Hammers during the January transfer window, with sources telling ESPN FC that United have allowed the Scotland international to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer with his contract up in the summer.

But despite Fletcher's desire for more playing time, Allardyce -- whose side lost 2-0 at Liverpool on Saturday afternoon -- says the midfielder is unlikely to make a move to east London this winter.

When asked whether West Ham would be signing Fletcher before Monday night's transfer deadline, Allardyce responded: "It doesn't look like it, no. It looks like it's broken down on negotiations."

Following United's 3-1 victory over Leicester at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal told his postmatch news conference: "I don't know what is happening. When you allow your player to go to London for the medical, there is no problem. At the end there is no agreement, it is strange.

"We want to help Fletcher. That is my only concern. I am very happy he is coming back. He is my third captain. Because of the competition he is not playing much. Because of that I want to help him.

"I don't know what is happening there but the agreement is different there. On Saturday it is off. I cannot say anything about it."
