Columbus Crew SC sign Cedrick Mabwati

Columbus Crew SC have announced the signing of Democratic Republic of the Congo international Cedrick Mabwati.

The midfielder, who is currently with his country at the African Nations Cup, was previously on the books at Spanish club Real Betis, who had loaned him to second division side Osasuna at the start of this season.

Capped nine times for DR Congo, the 22-year-old made appearances in each of his nation's group stage games in Equatorial Guinea, where they have advanced to the knockout stage.

Per club and MLS policy, many details of the deal were not disclosed. However it is known Mabwati will join the Columbus club at the conclusion of Osasuna's season this summer.

"Cedrick is a young, versatile player with international experience who can make an impact at any of our four attacking positions," said Crew head coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter of the announcement. "He is another player with considerable potential identified by our international scouting network and we look forward to him joining our team this summer."

Mabwati has taken part in 14 games for Osasuna this campaign, registering three assists.
