Danny Ings not joining Liverpool, Burnley insist

Burnley will not sanction a deal to sell Danny Ings to Liverpool and then take him back on loan because it is against Premier League rules, chief executive Lee Hoos has said.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Liverpool are interested in buying Ings, 22, before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche told a news conference on Thursday that the striker would be staying at Turf Moor until the end of the season, when his contract runs out.

Dyche has stated repeatedly that he does not want to sell Ings, seeing him as vital to the club's attempt to stay in the Premier League.

Liverpool have looked into the possibility of buying Ings and then loaning him back to the Clarets for the rest of the season, but in a statement released to the media on Friday, Hoos said that such a move is not allowed under Premier League rules.

League rule V7.1 states that a Premier League club buying a player cannot then loan him out again in the same transfer window.

Hoos said on Burnley's official website: "This type of move would violate Premier League rule V7 regarding transfers so simply cannot happen.

"This is the last time we will be making any comment regarding the player's future. Over the course of the window, the player himself, Sean Dyche and the chairman have made it clear he won't be going anywhere and we consider that the end of the matter."

Burnley would still be entitled to a fee for Ings even if he left when his contract expires at the end of the season as he is under 24.

Dyche feels that is less of a risk than sanctioning a sale in mid-season and losing the goal threat that could keep the club in the top flight.

The striker, signed from Bournemouth for around one million pounds in August 2011, scored 21 times last season as Burnley won promotion from the Championship by finishing runners-up to Leicester.
