Ivory Coast top Group D, drawing of lots to decide Mali or Guinea in second

Max Gradel's stunning strike ensured that Ivory Coast finished top of the African Nations Cup Group D, as they beat Cameroon 1-0, but the other place in the group will be decided by the drawing of lots as Guinea and Mali finished 1-1.

In a group that saw four 1-1 draws from the first four games, if the teams had managed the same scoreline again then lots would have been drawn for all four places in the table.

However, Gradel struck in the 35th minute with a powerful shot from outside the area and Ivory Coast's defence held firm to ensure they took top spot.

Another 1-1 draw did occur, though, in the other game. In a game of two penalties, Kevin Constant put Guinea ahead in the 15th minute with a penalty, but Seydou Keita was then afforded a chance to level for Mali from the spot just three minutes later.

The former Barcelona midfielder missed, but Mali got their equaliser as Modibo Maíga struck just after half-time.

The result saw both sides level on points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head, which means a drawing of lots to be held on Thursday at 3.p.m GMT (10.a.m ET) by CAF will decide who will follow Ivory Coast into the knockout stages.
