Agency split delays new Liverpool contract for Raheem Sterling

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has yet to sign a new contract amid a split at the agency that represents him.

Sterling's representatives Impact Sports Management have been in talks with Reds chief executive Ian Ayre for more than three months.

Sources told ESPN FC on Jan. 9 that a deal was close, while manager Brendan Rodgers told a news conference last Thursday that it was "very imminent."

But the new Anfield contract -- which is expected to run until 2020, three years beyond his current deal -- has still not been confirmed.

While the wait continues, Impact Sports Management's Rob Segal has told the Daily Mail that his colleague Aidy Ward is leaving the company to set up his own business.

Sterling told the Daily Mirror in January 2013 that Ward and Segal both acted as his agents at the Hertfordshire-based company, which also represents West Brom forward Saido Berahino and Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Mail reports that there will be "short-term complications" regarding the Sterling deal as a result of the split, which Segal insists is amicable.

He said: "Everything is being worked out between myself and Aidy in a very amicable fashion, despite some in our industry suggesting otherwise.

"Aidy wants to go it alone and I can understand the reasons but we will continue to work together when it suits us."

Sterling has been linked with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea in recent months, but Rodgers said on Thursday that he believes the 20-year-old England international is content at Anfield.

Rodgers said: "The player's very happy. He wants to be here. So we hope we'll get the solution on that very soon."
