Samuel Eto'o completes Sampdoria move from Everton

Sampdoria have completed the signing of Samuel Eto'o from Everton on a contract until 2018.

Former Inter Milan forward Eto'o, 33, had signed for Everton on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, but he has been allowed to move on after just 20 appearances, and four goals, for Roberto Martinez's side.

Sampdoria general secretary Massimo Ienca had confirmed the Cameroonian's return to Serie A on Twitter on Tuesday, writing: "We can finally say that Samuel Eto'o is a Sampdoria player. Here he is for you signing his contract."

Samp, who had faced competition for the striker from New York Cosmos, then confirmed the deal on their official website.

Everton boss Martinez, meanwhile, told his club's official website: "We thank Samuel for his efforts and for bringing his know-how to the team and to Finch Farm where he passed on some of his terrific experience to all of the young players in particular.

"The memory of his performances in Europe stand out especially. On behalf of all Evertonians, we wish him well for the next chapter in his career."

Eto'o had also played for Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona and Anzhi Makhachkala during his career, winning the Champions League twice during his time at the Camp Nou and once at Inter.
