Mats Hummels: Transfer reports not a new situation for Dortmund players

Mats Hummels has once again dismissed rumours linking him with a switch away from Borussia Dortmund, and said that they will not distract him from the task of helping BVB stay in the Bundesliga.

Hummels, 26, and his teammates Ilkay Gundogan, 24, and Marco Reus, 25, have been subject to transfer speculation in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp's side sit second from bottom in the table.

While the Germany centre-back has no release clause in his contract amid reported interest from Manchester United and Arsenal, attacker Reus can trigger a 25 million-euro clause in the summer.

Midfielder Gundogan has entered the final 18 months of his current deal, meaning that BVB could cash in on him at the end of the current campaign.

Speaking to Bild, Hummels has said that those rumours will not distract the BVB stars from their sole job of keeping Dortmund in the top flight.

"It's not like those rumours are a new situation for any of us," Hummels said. "Also with me where rumours have continuously been spread -- and I am still around."

Last week the Germany international told Die Welt that he does not need Champions League football to be happy, and when the Bild raised the question again on Monday, Hummels reacted by asking: "Are you looking for a headline?

"I will do it like I've done for seven years now. I will take things as they come and right now I am just looking forward to our start in Leverkusen. I block everything else out."

Midway through the season, Dortmund sit 17th out of 18 Bundesliga sides and restart their campaign with an away match at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
