Aston Villa have ended their attempts to sign Manchester City's Scott Sinclair as manager Paul Lambert admitted he won't be buying the winger in this transfer window.

The Premier League champions reportedly wanted 4 million pounds for the former Swansea player and Lambert said the combination of the transfer fee and wages meant the deal is off.

"It's a mixture of everything," he said in a news conference. "[The chase for] Scott Sinclair now looks dead, it's not going to go anywhere at the minute."

Villa, who are the lowest scorers in English football after only mustering 11 league goals so far this season, had hoped to recruit Sinclair to give them some more firepower.

They have made one signing this month, bringing in Valencia midfielder Carles Gil for 3.25 million pounds, and Lambert believes the Spaniard will be his only addition.

"Will there be any more coming in? The way it's looking at the moment, no," he added.

Sinclair has only made two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and has started just three matches for City since his 6.2 million-pound move from Swansea in 2012.

He spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion but failed to impress there.
