West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has confirmed the club have held talks with Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Fletcher's future at Old Trafford has been the subject of conjecture, with the Scot starting just four Premier League matches under United boss Louis van Gaal this season.

This week, reports in Spain linked Valencia with a move for the 30-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, while West Ham have also been mooted as potential suitors.

"We've spoken to Darren and had a chat with him. He'll let us know. The timeframe will be deadline day," said Pulis.

"I'm not sure about United, that might be one of his options. He's a fantastic lad. I'm not sure [if there is a fee involved], he'll make a decision where he wants to go and then the clubs will get involved in negotiations."

Pulis went on to confirm that striker Saido Berahino could be sold during the January transfer window, amid reported interest from Liverpool.

He said in the Daily Mirror: "We would love to keep him, but you never know what is around the corner.

"If the squad wasn't strong enough, it would be very difficult to say yes but you still might take a chance.

"You have to make sure you are strong in your convictions.

"The most important thing is to believe if he was going to stay he was going to do it for you or if someone had come in and got into the kid and it affected the kid that much, you have to look at it with an open view."

On Thursday, Van Gaal refused to rule out the possibility of letting Fletcher leave United this month.
