Oriol Romeu keen to extend his loan move from Chelsea to Stuttgart

Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has said he could imagine staying at Stuttgart beyond the end of the season.

Romeu, 23, joined the Bundesliga club on loan last summer, having spent the previous campaign in his native Spain at Valencia.

The former Spain under-21 international is under contract at Chelsea until 2017, and as things stand, he is set to return to Stamford Bridge at end of the 2014-15 season.

Romeu last played for the Blues on Dec. 8, 2012, when he was taken off with a knee injury only 19 minutes into the 3-1 win at Sunderland. He failed to return to the pitch that season and left for Valencia the following summer.

In his maiden Bundesliga campaign, Romeu has been a regular starter for Stuttgart, and has so far made 16 out of a possible 17 league appearances.

His impressive performances have won him the recognition of coach Huub Stevens and kicker reports that an extension of his loan deal is currently being discussed at the club.

"I could imagine that," Romeu told the paper, but added that the Blues will have to make the call. "I don't know what Chelsea plans."

Chelsea are still monitoring Romeu's progress in the Bundesliga, with youth coach Eddie Newton sending the player short video sequences of his performances with suggestions for improvements, according to kicker.
