Scunthorpe United lose both goalkeepers to broken arms

Both of Scunthorpe United's goalkeepers left Saturday's defeat to Bristol City with a broken arm.

First-choice custodian Sam Slocombe went off injured after just eight minutes.

Half an hour later, his replacement, Jamie Severn, was stretchered off in agony and taken to hospital after denying Matt Smith in a one-on-one.

Scunthorpe were already down 1-0 at that point, but they were able to push forward in the second half before City who made the game safe with a second goal in the 85th minute.

Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins said he was proud of his players' efforts on an afternoon when they had to play the whole of the second half with an outfield player in goal.

"We've lost two goalkeepers in this game to the same injury -- broken arms under a challenge from one of their players," Robins told BBC Radio Humberside. "I'm just massively disappointed and I'm disappointed for them because they've broken their arms.

"I'm disappointed for the players because they were the better team on the day.
