Kevin Mirallas delays decision on new contract with Everton

Everton winger Kevin Mirallas has revealed he will not make any decision on his future until the summer, when he will move into the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

Mirallas, 27, has held preliminary talks over an extension to his current deal but has yet to reach an agreement to stay on Merseyside.

The Toffees know they will either need to sell him at the end of the season or get pen to paper before his value starts to diminish, as the threat of a Bosman free exit would then be 12 months away.

"I don't feel any problem with my situation," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I've spoken very well with the manager and the chairman, and there is no problem.

"The best thing, for me and for the team, is that I finish the season well. Then after that I will go away on holiday, and when I come back we will talk about my situation.

"But like I say, the most important thing in the meantime is to play well for the team."

Everton have had a tough season and find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the table and out of both domestic cup competitions after Tuesday's FA Cup exit at West Ham in a penalty shootout. Mirallas is hoping the knockout stages of the Europa League will provide more joy.

Roberto Martinez's team will face Swiss side Young Boys in the Round of 32 next month, with the second leg on home turf.

"The Europa League gives us a lot of possibilities," he said. "We have shown this season in Europe that we are a very good team. We played very well in the group and we got a good draw in the last 32.

"I know the first game is difficult because the pitch is a little strange, but I think that this team needs to win a trophy.

"I have been here for three years now, and to not have won a trophy in that time is difficult for me. Hopefully we can fix that this season."
