Man United's Angel Di Maria 'honoured' to be in 2014 FIFPro World XI

Manchester United's Angel Di Maria said it was "truly humbling" to be voted into the 2014 FIFPro World XI, which was announced at the Ballon d'Or ceremony this week.

More than 23,000 professional footballers from across the planet voted for the best team of last year and Di Maria was included in the three-man midfield, along with Barcelona's Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid's World Cup winner Toni Kroos.

Di Maria, who provided more assists than any other player in Europe's top five leagues in 2014, helped Argentina reach the World Cup final and was named Man of the Match in the Champions League final when Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 4-1.

And he told United's official website: "It was a privilege and an honour to be named in the FIFPro World XI at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich on Monday. To be named among the world's elite players is truly humbling.

"Since I was a young boy, all I have ever wanted to do is play football, so to receive awards like this is an added bonus. It was a great night and I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me."

Di Maria's 2014 was also notable for becoming the most expensive player in the history of British football when United smashed the British transfer record to pay 59.7 million pounds for him.

The Argentine was the only Premier League player in the FIFPro team and the first United representative since Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic were voted into the 2011 side.
