Wilfried Bony says he moved to Man City to win Champions League

Wilfried Bony has set his sights on winning the Champions League after completing his 25 million-pound move to Manchester City.

The Ivorian striker signed a four-and-a-half year deal as he left Swansea to become City's first signing of the January transfer window. And he said his choice was influenced by the chance to play in Europe's major club competition.

"It was a great decision because Manchester City was playing [in the] Champions League," the 26-year-old told City's website. "I said if I wanted to move it was to a team playing [in the] Champions League because it is a competition I really want to play [in] and really want to win also. It is a great competition and gives me a strong motivation."

City have never been beyond the last-16 of the Champions League and face Barcelona, who knocked them out last year at the same stage, in February for a place in the quarterfinals.

But Bony is confident that Manuel Pellegrini's team can get revenge, adding: "Why not? City is a big club with great players. We just have to be ready."

Bony will not make his debut for City until February because of the African Nations Cup but will link up with Ivory Coast teammate Yaya Toure again at the Etihad Stadium.

And he said he had consulted the midfielder about the move, adding: "I spoke with Yaya every day. He will help me become a better player."

Bony was the Premier League's top scorer in 2014 with 20 goals but believes he will be under more scrutiny at City, adding: "It is a high level now at Manchester City so I need to be stronger mentally."

The former Vitesse Arnhem forward, whose fee could rise to 28 million pounds depending on add-ons, has been given the No. 14 shirt at City.
