Philipp Lahm has told L'Equipe he will likely retire when his current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2018 rather than make a move to the U.S. or Qatar.
Lahm, 31, has won five Bundesliga titles and as the DFB-Pokal as many times in a trophy-filled decade at the Allianz Arena. The Bayern captain remains a fundamental part of Pep Guardiola's outfit, who have a massive 11-point lead at the top of the German top flight.
After winning everything there is to win in club football, and adding a World Cup triumph with Germany last summer, Lahm -- who could be out of action until March with a broken ankle -- revealed he sees himself ending his career with Bayern in three-and-a-half years' time.
He said: "That's a possible date. I will be 34 then. It will be the right moment. I'm not someone who is going to push and push until I break. I want to leave at the top of my game.
"I want to have the memory of magnificent years with the national team and Bayern. I don't see myself going to the USA or Qatar."
After two near misses in 2010 and 2012, Lahm lifted the Champions League in 2013 as Bayern saw off Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. Though his trophy cabinet is already well stocked, Lahm hopes to climb to the summit of European club football at least once more before he hangs up his boots.
"The sensation of winning that competition is so intoxicating that I want to win it again at any cost before I retire," said Lahm, whose side face Shakhtar Donetsk in the last-16 next month. "That's my great objective for the end of my career. We have the potential to win it this season."
The Germany international believes "Real Madrid, Chelsea and Barcelona are among the main contenders" to lift the continent's biggest prize, while acknowledging Paris Saint-Germain could also challenge.
"They're a club that just keeps on getting stronger, and we'll also have to count them in," he added. "In any case, I'm curious to see what the encounter between PSG and Chelsea will be like."
