Werder Bremen confirm interest in signing Lazio striker Miroslav Klose

Werder Bremen have confirmed their interest in bringing former Germany international Miroslav Klose back to the Bundesliga.

Klose, 36, is under contract at Lazio until the summer. While that deal includes the option of another year in Rome, it has become increasingly unlikely that the former Germany international, who has scored 71 goals in 137 games for the World Cup winners, will activate it.

Following the 2014 World Cup, Klose has dropped down the pecking order at Lazio -- something that has not gone unnoticed at his former club in Germany.

"Should Miroslav Klose become available on the market, we will certainly consider him," Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin told Sport Bild.

The attacker already played for Bremen during the last decade, and scored 53 goals in 89 Bundesliga games for the club between 2004 and 2007, when he joined Bayern Munich.

"He has a great Werder past and a very good name in Bremen," Eichin added.

Bremen already registered their interest with Klose before the World Cup, the paper reported.

And speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Bremen coach Viktor Skripnik said that Klose returning to his club "would be a dream."
