Liverpool are monitoring captain Steven Gerrard's hamstring problem in the hope that he will be fit to play a pivotal part in their January push for cup success.
Gerrard felt tightness in the hamstring during Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win at Sunderland, and was replaced at half-time.
Manager Brendan Rodgers said after the game that his decision to take off his captain was a "precaution."
Gerrard was assessed at Liverpool's Melwood training ground on Monday, but the club have yet to make public whether he will be available for four key games in 11 days.
A final decision on the 34-year-old's fitness is likely to be made later this week, sources have told ESPN FC.
Rodgers' side visit Aston Villa in the league on Saturday, before hosting Chelsea in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semifinal the following Tuesday.
They then host Championship side Bolton in the FA Cup fourth round four days later, heading to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the Chelsea tie on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Gerrard announced on Jan. 2 that he would leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of this season, bringing to an end an association with the club he joined as an eight-year-old.
He subsequently confirmed his decision to join MLS side LA Galaxy on an 18-month contract.
