Hamburg eager to win race to sign Arsenal target Krystian Bielik

Hamburg are hopeful of persuading teenage midfielder Krystian Bielik to sign for them over Arsenal.

Bielik, 17, has been strongly linked with a transfer to Arsenal, with his agent recently expressing his optimism a deal with Legia Warsaw can be agreed.

The 6-foot-2 Pole visited Hamburg at the weekend and the club's coach, Joe Zinnbauer, is eager to secure his signature.

"He's a really good lad with a good character," Zinnbauer told Hamburger Morgenpost. "And if we'd be without a chance he would not have followed our invitation to Hamburg.

"The question is whether he'd fit in with Arsenal. He certainly fits in with us."

A source close to the player has told ESPN FC that, for now, Bielik could be looking to play in the Bundesliga, with many young Polish players making their first steps in the German top flight and Hamburg providing opportunities to young talents under Zinnbauer.

Hamburg are 14th in the Bundesliga table, but only have a two-point lead on bottom club Freiburg after the first half of the season.
