Cristiano Ronaldo wants fourth Ballon d'Or - Florentino Perez

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says Cristiano Ronaldo is already targeting a fourth Ballon d'Or trophy.

Ronaldo, 29, picked up his third FIFA World Player of the Year award on Monday night, when he came out on top against Barcelona's Lionel Messi -- who already has won the prize four times -- and Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

After gaining 37.66 percent of the votes from international coaches, captains and selected journalists worldwide, Ronaldo said from the podium in Zurich: "I want to become one of the greatest players of all time and this requires a lot of effort but I hope to get there.''

Blancos chief Perez, quoted on his club's official website, said at the ceremony that Ronaldo's drive to win individual awards ultimately ended up benefiting his team as well.

"Cristiano wants to beat every record," he said. "He wants a fourth Ballon d'Or, he's working to win it and he has started very well, although, as he has said, what's most important is that the team's playing well, is top of La Liga, creates excitement and from that come the individual awards."

Reigning Champions League winners Madrid had an excellent night, with defender Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos named alongside Ronaldo in the FIFPro World XI of the Year, and midfielder James Rodriguez's stunning volley for Colombia against Uruguay at last year's World Cup being chosen for the Puskas Award for the "most beautiful goal."

Perez said he was happy for his players to be recognised in this manner, while also remembering former Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, who joined Manchester United last summer and was also named in the team of the year.

"I'm delighted that Sergio Ramos is in the world XI for the fifth time," he said. "I'm also delighted for Kroos and James, who got their reward. In the World Cup, we saw that they were among the best players and we had the opportunity and the pleasure of being able to sign them.

"And I haven't forgotten Di Maria, because his prize also comes from the hard work he put in for Real Madrid."

The only low moment of the night from a Madrid perspective was coach Carlo Ancelotti missing out to Germany's Joachim Low in the Coach of the Year award, but Perez said if the team continued its recent good form the Italian would win the prize for 2015.

"I'm convinced that he'll win the World Coach of the Year award next year, so it isn't a disappointment," he said. "When everything is going well, it's a collective job and the coach is important, as are the players, the fans, the atmosphere in the dressing room and the desire to win. That's why we're very satisfied with the way the season has started."

Also at the ceremony in Zurich was Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes, who said in El Pais that his client had already shifted his focus from celebrating his third Ballon d'Or onto winning it again next year.

"Cristiano is a perfect machine," Mendes said. "He has already moved on from thinking about this Ballon d'Or. He is already thinking about winning the fourth. I am convinced he is going to win it. He is the best player in history. He is a legend already. He is a football don."
