Crystal Palace are "hopeful" of finalising a loan deal to bring Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo to the club this week, sources have told ESPN FC.
Sanogo was at Palace's training headquarters on Monday for talks with newly installed manager Alan Pardew, after Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stated he is keen to loan the French forward to a Premier League club in this transfer window.
Wenger confirmed last Friday that he has spoken to Hull manager Steve Bruce about a move for Sanogo, but the 21-year-old is believed to favour a move to Palace as it will allow him to stay in London as he looks to confirm he has a long term future with the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Pardew has told the Croydon Advertiser that he has yet to express an interest in Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe, but he appreciates plenty of English top flight clubs would been keen to sign the forward, who has scored 124 Premier League goals in his lengthy career.
When asked whether he had made a move to sign Defoe, Pardew responded: "Personally, no, but I know Jermain from my West Ham days and I know what he can do.
"It will be interesting to see if he comes on the market and if he pitches in. He will probably have a couple of choices, I should think."
Pardew admitted he is "interested in any striker" following his arrival at the club, but his interest in Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis has been hit by the imminent move of his team-mate Wilfried Bony to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Pardew has released loanee striker Kevin Doyle, with the Republic of Ireland forward heading back to parent club Wolves with just a few months left on his contract after an unsuccessful spell at Palace.
