Sam Allardyce confident Winston Reid will stay at West Ham

Sam Allardyce says he remains hopeful that reported Arsenal target Winston Reid will sign a new contract at West Ham United.

Reid's current deal is due to expire in the summer and Allardyce had earlier suggested that the New Zealand international was likely to move on at the end of the season.

Arsenal have been regularly linked with a move for the centre-back, but Allardyce has said he now hopes Reid might opt to prolong his stay in East London.

Asked if anything had been resolved with regards to the 26-year-old, the Hammers boss told a news conference: "No movement on Winston Reid at all, no.

"There's no choice for me. He stays -- that's it. If somebody makes a big offer then obviously the chairman decides, but for me he's staying. The chairman decides whether the money is big enough, but for me he stays and I think that, the way the club has improved, I think he will stay.

"I think that what we have done this season, and hopefully [we will] finish off the season strongly, might persuade him to sign for us.

"We are on the up at the moment and we have got a very big future ahead of us, moving into the new stadium, so the club could be bigger than it's ever been in the next four to five years."

Reid moved to Upton Park from Midtjylland following the 2010 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Allardyce played down reports he could make a move for Celtic's Efe Ambrose.

"There is limited finance for us, as I have said before, on the financial fair play side of it, so anybody coming in on a permanent basis wouldn't be possible for us, I don't think, based on the budgets that we have got available," he said. "Maybe a loan player or two, but not a permanent deal."
