Javier Mascherano: Barcelona win over Atletico 'not about shutting mouths'

BARCELONA -- Javier Mascherano has told ESPN FC that Barcelona's 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid is a true reflection of how good Luis Enrique's team can be.

Barcelona had been under pressure going into the game against the reigning Spanish champions, with regular coverage in the local media of the apparent problems affecting the Catalan side.

Mascherano appeared irritated when he appeared in the mixed zone after the success at the Camp Nou and questioned the validity of some of the rumours to emerge in the last week, but he insisted the win was "not about shutting mouths."

He said: "We'll take today's game as a reflection of what we can be -- that we can truly be competitive.

"Above all we need to reinforce that with the games that are coming up. It's important to repeatedly deliver what we produced tonight. First, this weekend against Deportivo, then in the Copa against Elche. We need to try and create a run of positive results with a good quality of play."

Andres Iniesta, meanwhile, said he hopes Barca have turned a corner with the win.

"We delivered a very complete game," he told ESPN FC. "That's the kind of game we need to produce to beat a team like Atletico. We hope that what's to come now will be even better."
