Singapore number one goalkeeper Hassan in Bangkok for trials

Singapore national team goalkeeper Hassan Sunny is in Bangkok for trials with Thai Premier League club Army United FC in a bid to fulfil his dream of playing overseas.

The 30-year-old won the S.League title last season with Warriors FC and was crowned as the S.League's player of the season by his peers after an outstanding campaign. It culminated in him starting all three of Singapore's matches at the AFF Suzuki Cup, where the Lions bowed out after the group stage.

Despite signing a contract with S.League giants Tampines Rovers FC for the upcoming season, Hassan was granted permission by the club to head for Thailand in a bid to secure a contract with Army United who are coached by former England defender Gary Stevens.

As reported by Today, Stags' general manager Tay Peng Kee said: "We have received an official letter from Army United inviting Hassan for a three-day trial. The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has also been informed and we have agreed to let him go and attend the trials.

"I spoke to Hassan today and he told me that he has got nothing to lose by going for the trials. If he gets a good offer he will consider. The club will not stand in his way either. We are happy for him, but if he joins the Thai club, then it will a loss for us also."

While Hassan is in Bangkok, another Singaporean player Safuwan Baharudin made the trip to Melbourne last week to join up with Melbourne City FC for trials to decide if the club want him as their fifth foreign signing.

The talented defender, arguably the Lion City's top players for the past two years is on the books of 2013 Malaysian Super League champions LionsXII but is keen to try his luck overseas with Australia or Japan his preferred destination.
