Australia's Mile Jedinak to miss game vs. Oman with ankle injury

SYDNEY -- Australia captain Mile Jedinak has been ruled out of Tuesday's Asian Cup match against Oman after suffering an ankle injury in the Socceroos' 4-1 win over Kuwait on Friday.

Jedinak twisted his left ankle contesting a header in the 41st minute of the match against Kuwait.

"He's not quite right to play and at this stage of the tournament we are better to give it a few days extra rest and we will re-assess where he's at for the game against Korea Republic," Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said.

"While it is not ideal for Mile to miss the game I'm confident we have the players and depth to be able to cover for not having him out there.

"We worked hard on increasing our depth over the last six months leading into the Asian Cup and that has us in a good position to be able to cover for the loss of a player of Mile's calibre."

Oman, who play Australia on Tuesday in Sydney, lost their opening match of the tournament 1-0 to South Korea on Saturday.

Australia and South Korea are expected to vie for top honours in Group A of the 16-team tournament.
