Bayern Munich's Bundesliga rivals target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg loan

Hannover and Augsburg are battling for the signature of Bayern Munich youngster Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the Denmark international set to leave the Bundesliga champions on loan during the winter.

Hojbjerg, 19, joined Bayern from Brondby at the age of 16 in 2012. Despite being hailed as one of the up-and-coming midfielders in European football and winning his first international caps, he has failed to win minutes in Pep Guardiola's side this season.

With the likes of Philipp Lahm, Xabi Alonso and Bastian Schweinsteiger ahead of him in the pecking order, Hojbjerg wants to seek his chance to break into the Bundesliga away from the Allianz Arena, where he has featured in only 17 league games for Bayern so far.

Hojbjerg is currently under contract until 2016, and with Bayern not willing to sell the midfielder, it is likely that the midfielder will first prolong his contract until 2018 and then go on a loan to another Bundesliga club.

The Dane has been linked with Hannover in recent months, but their interest cooled following Lahm's long-term injury, with the club believing Bayern would not sell a possible replacement.

But Hannover have not given up on Hojbjerg and hope to land the player this winter, with the club's sporting executive Dirk Dufner telling Suddeutsche Zeitung on Monday: "We have lodged our interest. Bayern can imagine sending him on loan to Hannover."

Yet Hannover are not the only club interested in Hojbjerg: according to kicker, Augsburg currently lead the race for the youngster.

The paper claims that Hojbjerg and Augburg coach Markus Weinzierl have already discussed a potential loan and the midfielder appears to favour joining the local Bavarian rivals.

But with Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez, David Alaba and Lahm all working on their comebacks from injury, kicker reports that any deal currently still hinges on the progress of the quartet.
