Burnley in talks to permanently sign defender Michael Keane from Man Utd

BURNLEY -- Burnley are in negotiations with Manchester United about signing defender Michael Keane on a permanent deal.

The centre-back has spent the first half of the season on loan at Turf Moor after arriving on transfer deadline day in September and the Clarets are keen to keep the 21-year-old, either on a temporary deal or by buying him.

England Under-21 international Keane, a product of the Old Trafford youth system, has only made one league appearance for United but has featured 12 times since joining Burnley and has become a regular while the veteran Michael Duff has been out injured.

And Burnley have been in regular dialogue with United about ensuring he remains at Turf Moor.

"We are just looking at that situation," said manager Sean Dyche in a news conference after the 1-1 draw with Tottenham. "That has been ongoing ever since he has been here."

Asked if that will mean a permanent switch to Turf Moor, Dyche added: "We will wait and see. That is a discussion we will have with him and Manchester United. That has been going on for a while."

Dyche suggested Burnley could soon make another signing, adding: "There are a couple of situations we have been working on. It depends on if they become available at the right cost base."

Burnley confirmed that another defender, Kevin Long, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the 3-3 draw on New Year's Day but said that the Irish centre-back had signed a new two-year contract.

Striker Sam Vokes, who has just recovered from the same injury, scored their equaliser against Tottenham on only his second substitute appearance of the season and Dyche added: "I am delighted to see him back."
