Robin Dutt close to new director of football role at Stuttgart

Robin Dutt is set to be named the new director of football at Bundesliga strugglers Stuttgart after he reached an agreement with his former club Werder Bremen over the termination of his contract with them.

Former Freiburg coach Dutt was relieved of his duties by Bremen earlier this season, although he still had more than 18 months left to run on his contract.

He would not have been able to work for any other club for the remainder of his contract with Bremen, which is why the agreement reached over New Year to terminate that deal suggests he is about to accept a new role.

The Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper says Stuttgart have a four-year contract ready for him to take over as their director of sport, a role which has been vacant since Fredi Bobic was dismissed earlier this season.

"The negotiations over the termination of his contract were fair, as was all of our collaboration,'' said Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin.

"We always made it clear how much we had respected Dutt's work and I did not want to put any obstacles in his way, should new opportunities arise for Robin."

Dutt previously held a similar position with the German Football Association (DFB) after having coached at both Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

He gave up his role at the DFB to take charge of Bremen in 2013, but after successfully guiding them to a safe mid-table finish in his first season, he was relieved of his duties while they were inside the bottom three and without a single win all season on Oct. 25.
