'Arsenal yet to make approach for St Etienne captain Loic Perrin'

St Etienne have denied Arsenal have made an approach for their captain, Loic Perrin, according to French media.

Rhone Alpes region newspaper Le Progres has reported that St Etienne, who are currently fourth in the French top flight, had not been contacted by the Gunners for centre-back Perrin, 29, with regard to a potential January move, despite claims made in the British media.

"They have had no contact with their English counterparts and above all have no intention of allowing a St Etienne emblem and an exceptional player leave in the middle of a season," the paper claimed. "Let the fans be reassured: Loic Perrin will still be a St Etienne player in 2015."

St Etienne-born Perrin, who made his professional debut with his hometown club in 2003 and has made 235 top-flight appearances for them, was one of seven reserves named by Didier Deschamps for France's 2014 World Cup squad, and has been included in recent Les Bleus squads.
