Mario Balotelli return would delight Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi has invited Mario Balotelli to join Inter Milan, although the Serie A club appear to be focusing on other targets this winter.

Balotelli has been linked with a return to the Nerazzurri after failing to settle at Liverpool, with current Inter coach Roberto Mancini recently saying any club would want the Italian forward if he were to rediscover his best form.

"If he comes here, we'd be delighted to welcome him," Icardi, who has pledged his own future to Inter, told Mediaset television. "He's a fantastic forward."

However, his wishes are unlikely to be granted, with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers having played down the prospect and Inter reported to have focused their attentions on Paris Saint-Germain's Ezequiel Lavezzi and Lukas Podolski of Arsenal.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Lavezzi has requested a move away from PSG, and Inter will have the chance to conduct negotiations with both the player and his club over the coming days since they are both in Marrakech for a friendly match on Tuesday night.

Podolski has also been linked with a move to the San Siro, and the Germany international said in recent says that he is to seek talks with Arsenal in the coming days to determine whether he has a future with the club.

Mancini certainly appears keen to improve his options in the winter market, and former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello says both Inter and their city rivals have much to do if they are to challenge with the best again.

"Milan and Inter both need to improve a lot," Capello said at the Globe Soccer Forum in Dubai. "If they don't get anything wrong, then they can return to being competitive again within three years."
