Singapore legend V. Sundramoorthy ready for home challenge in S.League

Singapore football legend V. Sundramoorthy cannot wait to get started as he prepares for the 2015 S.League season with his new club Tampines Rovers FC.

The coach who led the LionsXII to the 2013 Malaysian Super League title recently relinquished his position in charge of Malaysian Premier League side Negeri Sembilan as he made a swift decision to take the Tampines hotseat.

His last stint in the S.League was back in 2010, when he was coaching the Courts Young Lions for three years, while he also coached the now defunct Jurong FC from 1999 to 2003.

Speaking to The New Paper, Sundram said: "It feels good to be home and back in the S.League, It's been....maybe four years?

"There were other offers from Super League clubs after I left Negeri Sembilan, but things didn't work out. In the end, Tampines came knocking, and I thought, why not come back to the S.League? It's our (national) league after all."

The former Singapore international who won the Malaysia Cup with club side Kedah FA in 1990, has wasted little time in drafting in players and has already signed the likes of Geylang International FC duo Ridhuan Muhammad and Fabian Kwok, Firdaus Idros from Tanjong Pagar United FC, and has also snapped up this season's S.League player of the year, Hassan Sunny to be the first-choice goalkeeper for the five-time league champions.

Having finished the 2014 season with no trophies, the Stags are desperate to wrest the league title back from Alex Weaver's Warriors FC and will be hoping to have a good run in the RHB Singapore Cup and League cup competitions as well.
