Cristiano Ronaldo's agent says star will finish his career at Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes appears to have ruled out the prospect of his client leaving Real Madrid any time soon after confirming he expects the Portuguese star to finish his career at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has been persistently linked with a move to his former club Manchester United over the last couple of years, with question marks his future in the Spanish capital reaching fever pitch last summer as the Old Trafford club were rumoured to be preparing an offer to lure him back to England.

Yet Mendes seems convinced the 29-year-old Ronaldo will see out his playing day with the reigning European champions, in comments appearing in an interview with Globo Esporte.

"I believe that Cristiano will finish his career at Real Madrid," Mendes is reported to have said. "He's happy at the club and is still keen to achieve more success in Madrid."

Mendes went on to suggest Ronaldo is the greatest player to have played for Real Madrid and suggested the club should consider retiring the No.7 shirt Ronaldo wears when he hangs up his boots.

"I respect great players like Raul and [Alfredo] Di Stefano, but none of them compare to Cristiano Ronaldo," he added. "Cristiano is the greatest ever. It will be impossible for anyone to emulate him in the future. There's just such a gulf between him and second best.

"Cristiano Ronaldo kicked off Real Madrid's transformation. Five or six years ago, the team were not as good as they are now. They weren't Barcelona, whom everybody considered the greatest team ever."
