Atletico Madrid not ruling out Fernando Torres return from Milan

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has denied the Liga champions are in discussions with AC Milan over a deal for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, but has not ruled out a move for the former Rojiblancos captain.

Torres, 30, has scored one Serie A goal since joining the San Siro side on a two-year loan from Chelsea in the summer, with reports in the British media suggesting Atletico are looking to offer the striker a route back to Madrid with Alessio Cerci heading the other way.

Cerezo told AS that while no deal is currently on the table, Diego Simeone -- who was captained by Torres when both played for Atleti -- could seek a January move for the Rossoneri forward.

"There is no Torres deal, but that doesn't mean that it's not going to happen," he said. "We have a great team with all positions well covered.

"Until the transfer window is closed there is always the possibility of bringing a player in. We're going to do our best in competing for all three trophies this season."

Atletico head into the winter break four points behind fierce rivals Real Madrid in the table, though off-field events have overshadowed their title defence: Spanish police made a series of arrests last week in connection with the death of a Deportivo La Coruna "ultra" supporter following clashes between rival sets of fans before Atleti's match against Depor on Nov. 30.

The Liga champions banned ultra group "Frente Atletico" from the Vicente Calderon following the death, and Cerezo insists the club are committed to keeping radical supporters out despite the difficulties in identifying them on match days.

"We stand against any form of violence in any place," he said. "This however is a complicated matter, as we have anything from between 30,000 to 50,000 supporters attending games.

"In principal these groups are well controlled but sometimes it's difficult. At the same time we will keep pushing until these radical groups are eliminated from football. They are in the minority and the only solution is expelling them from all football grounds."

With divisions between the Atletico fans following the club's decision to ban the group, Cerezo said: "When one sees a lack of union between the supporters it's something that can affect the players. I'd ask all Atleti fans to leave the nonsense aside and get back to what we do best, supporting the team.

"[The players] are aware of this. Football has changed over the years and each player is aware that he is a role model for children and needs to act responsibly."
