Arsene Wenger backed to stay on at Arsenal by majority of voters in poll

Arsene Wenger should remain as manager of Arsenal, according to the majority of voters in a SunSport/YouGov survey.

The Sun commissioned the survey after Wenger, who has come in for criticism from Gunners fans this season, said last week that he does not conduct weekly polls like politicians to see how popular he is.

The Frenchman was verbally abused by a group of supporters at a train station after his side's 3-2 defeatĀ at Stoke earlier this month, while at West Bromwich Albion the week before, fans displayed a banner asking him to step down from his role at the club.

However, the Emirates Stadium showed its support for the manager last week during the 4-1 defeat of Newcastle by chanting "there's only one Arsene Wenger," and now 78 percent of Arsenal fans that were surveyed have backed him to stay in the job. Only 15 percent of voters wanted him to lose his job, with seven percent responding "don't know."

Voters were also asked whether they think Arsenal will win the Premier League again with Wenger as manager, and exactly half feel he will.

The Gunners boss, who has won three titles in his 18 years at the club, has not got his hands on the trophy since 2004.

But despite signing a new three-year contract in May after winning the FA Cup and ending the side's nine-year wait for a trophy, 32 percent of voters believe he will not win the title again. 18 percent responded "don't know."

Arsenal, who travel to Liverpool on Sunday, currently sit sixth in the table and are 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.
