Chelsea's form means nothing unless trophies are won, insists Petr Cech

Petr Cech has dismissed comparisons with Chelsea's historic 2005 title winners -- despite the class of 2014 being on course for the quadruple.

The goalkeeper insisted they must win trophies to prove their worth under Jose Mourinho.

Boss Mourinho guided Chelsea to their first title in 50 years in his first spell nine years ago and the leaders are tipped to take the Barclays Premier League crown again this season.

But Cech -- who has been linked with a move to Liverpool after losing the number one spot to Thibaut Courtois -- reckons they cannot take any plaudits without prizes.

"I keep saying you can only judge teams at the end of the season when you see how much the team achieve," he said.

"Because in this moment we have been doing remarkably well but we have no trophy in our hands. So let's see what's going to be the case at the end of the season.

"Obviously this team has the potential and the quality to become one of the best teams in the Chelsea history if it proves by winning the trophies."

Mourinho has played down talk of the quadruple after his side cruised into the last four of the Capital One Cup with a 3-1 win at Derby on Tuesday.

They are top of the table ahead of Monday's trip to Stoke and next month's FA Cup third round tie with Watford.

They have also drawn Paris St Germain in the Champions League and Cech underlined their determination for a clean sweep.

He said: "We try to win every game then let's see what it's going to bring us. We want to win as many games as possible, as many competitions as possible.

"But football is football, it is difficult to know how many of them you can actually manage to win."

Cech suffered a collision with Kurt Zouma in the first half at the iPro Stadium and believes his padded helmet, which he has worn since fracturing his skull in 2006, saved them both from serious injury.

Zouma was carried off with a head injury but is expected to be fit for the Britannia Stadium trip next week.

It did not stop Chelsea easing through against the Rams and stay on course to repeat their League Cup victories of 2005 and 2007 under Mourinho.

Eden Hazard, John Terry and Cesc Fabregas all played and Cech insisted it highlighted their will to win.

"We want to win every game and then you see what you win," said the 32-year-old. "You cannot say 'We leave this competition, we chase this competition' because in that competition you pick you have one unlucky game and you have nothing.

"So you can't treat competitions like that. We progressed in the Champions League, our aim, we've progressed in the League Cup and we are top of the league. So far we are doing well."
