Bacary Sagna hopes Frank Lampard extends Manchester City stay

Bacary Sagna has urged Frank Lampard to extend his stay at Manchester City.

The veteran midfielder's loan spell at the Etihad Stadium is due to come to an end in January as he plans to link up with New York City ahead of their inaugural Major League Soccer season.

But manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed he wants to keep the 36-year-old and right-back Sagna has joined in the chorus telling Lampard to remain in England.

"Of course," the Frenchman told reporters. "He is a great guy and he has fitted in perfectly.

He showed here that he can score important goals. He has shown many times that he is a great player. As long as we have him on board, it's always good."

Lampard scored his sixth City goal to give them victory over Leicester on Saturday and former Arsenal defender Sagna said it is difficult to mark him.

"He is a quick moving player," he added. "You have to keep in shape. You have to keep alive. You have to focus even more.

"To play against these types of players is so difficult. All of them are top, world-class players.

"He is a great professional. He keeps working really hard in training. He always tries his best and he is always ready to come in, even if it's for 10 minutes."

Lampard's strike at the King Power Stadium was his 175th in the Premier League, taking him level with Sagna's former France team-mate Thierry Henry, and putting him joint fourth in the division's all-time scoring list.

And Sagna said: "He is one of the best English players I have ever seen."
