Frank Lampard matches Thierry Henry's Premier League goals record

Frank Lampard equalled Thierry Henry's total of 175 Premier League goals with a first-half strike to hand Manchester City a 1-0 victory at Leicester City on Saturday.

Lampard, 36, broke the deadlock at the King Power Stadium in the 40th minute, guiding home from Samir Nasri's assist.

The goal means he and former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry are now tied at fourth on the all-time Premier League goalscorers list.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is third with 178 goals, ex Red Devils attack Andy Cole is second on 187 goals while top of the list is former Blackburn and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer on 260 strikes.

Lampard told BBC Sport after the game: "I'm very happy with [the record], I thought it was going to be out of my reach. I have respect for Henry, he is one of the greatest in Premier League history and to be up there with him his incredible.

"Those are the kind of games we need to get results, we needed to grind them out. We were not at our best but got three points.

"I've watched Leicester and seen even though they are down near the bottom, they are not short of passion. They showed that today. We were nowhere near the force we can be sometimes, but you have to show two sides to your game and I think we did that today."

Lampard's finish at Leicester was his sixth for City since joining the club on loan from New York City, having left Chelsea in the summer after a 13-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

On Friday, Manuel Pellegrini admitted City "need" to keep Lampard as they wait to discover if his loan spell at the Etihad Stadium will be extended.
