Pablo Zabaleta says Manchester City can keep 'breaking barriers' in UCL

Pablo Zabaleta has said he believes Manchester City can keep "breaking barriers" after they defeated Roma to reach the Champions League round of 16.

Three weeks ago, the chances of City qualifying had appeared improbable after they took only two points from their first four group games.

But despite being without key men Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure in Rome, City completed their recovery to take second place in Group E with a 2-0 win.

Samir Nasri -- who described their progress as "a miracle" -- and Zabaleta got the goals, and the Argentina international full-back said it did not matter who they drew next.

"Don't mind, whoever -- I'm not going to say who we want," he said. "Just that we're Manchester City and we're prepared to compete with whatever opposition.

"We want to keep breaking barriers. We have the players to do it, and we're going to fight to achieve the most possible.

"This is the fourth year in the competition. You learn a lot of things, and the competitive spirit is also important."

Zabaleta's goal was his third of the season and second in just over a week, and he said: "Well, two goals in 10 days. It's important on an individual level.

"There's a lot of the season left, and three is the maximum I've got in any one season all competitions.

"For a full-back that's something good, but if I think I'm going to be up the pitch every game I'd be mistaken."

Martin Demichelis said he believed City could now go on to win the competition, explaining: "We're not putting a ceiling on our ambitions and saying we can't.

"This team has won the Premier League and shown the quality as well as the potential they have."
